Melanie Graves, LMFT-S, Owner

Melanie Graves

Hello, my name is Melanie Graves. I am a seventh generation Texan, and I have lived near the Clear Lake area for my entire life. I currently live in League City with my husband. Like many families these days, we are a blended family. My husband has two daughters from a previous marriage, whom I lovingly call my bonus daughters, and we have two daughters of our own. Yes, there are a lot of females in our home, but we wouldn’t have it any other way.

I graduated from Clear Lake High School, then attended Baylor University where I earned a BA in Speech Communication. Like many, I struggled to find a job or career I felt passionate and fulfilled in. I worked in numerous fields, such as legal, sales, marketing and Human Resources, but nothing felt right. Growing up, I have always been told, “You’re so easy to talk to,” and “I’ve never told anyone this before, but...” Basically, it felt like I had “tell me everything” written across my forehead. When I finally discovered this was a gift that I could use to help others, I started pursuing a career in Marriage and Family Therapy.

I completed my Master of Arts degree in Marriage and Family Therapy at the University of Houston Clear Lake. During my internship I worked with students and their families in the Clear Creek Independent School District with a variety of issues. I also served as a counselor for the district’s alternate education program. This was both a rewarding and challenging experience.

After graduate school, in 2013, I decided to open my own private practice. Over the years I have worked with clients on a variety of issues including anxiety, depression, relationship issues, divorcing families, blending families, and grief.

In 2019, I became a licensed Marriage and Family Supervisor to aid others in my field reach their full potential and complete their clinical training. If you are a student in the field of marriage and family therapy looking for a supervisor, please contact me for more information.

I am continually working to offer my clients the absolute best quality of care by receiving regular and ongoing education in the field of psychological services, keeping up to date with the best outcomes in research based treatments, and maintaining best practices by upholding the ethical standards set forth by the Texas Behavioral Health Executive Council.

My approach to therapy comes from a solution-focused perspective where the client is the expert on his/her own life. My role as the therapist is to meet you where you’re at and offer you space to explore the parts or circumstances of your life you are seeking to change. I will assist you in creating goals to reach the desired change you seek. We will work together using research-based treatments and interventions.

Just like choosing a restaurant, I realize you have a lot of options in selecting your mental health provider. I am committed to making sure every person that contacts me receives the highest quality of care. This may mean that I might not be the best therapist to help you get where you want to go. If that is the case, I will offer you referrals for therapists in the area that specialize in what you are looking for.
