We have effective techniques to assist you in managing your anxiety disorder. Anxiety disorders may result from childhood trauma, learning disabilities, abuse, stress or lack of self-esteem. Understanding the source of anxiety attacks is always helpful and may be instructive, but anxiety counseling is primarily about assisting you in achieving a centered, functioning life. Our anxiety counseling sessions will not only focus on your anxiety disorder, but will also help you explore your family of origin, your interpersonal relationships and other triggers of anxiety attacks.

02 — Depression

Depression counseling can assist you in lifting the dark clouds of depression you may be experiencing. Depression rips away life from both the inflicted, and those closest to those in need of therapy. What many people don’t realize is that clinical depression is a very treatable condition. Seeking treatment early is always advisable. But even if you have suffered from depression for years,  counseling can help you to cope with problems and live a happier, healthier life. Clinical studies conducted over recent years indicate that therapy can be very effective in helping individuals manage or totally eliminate their depression.

04 — Divorcing Families

Divorce occurs when a marriage does not succeed. The end of a marriage can feel like a relief. It can also be extremely stressful. Even the partner who chooses to leave may feel a range of emotions. They may experience grief, guilt, anger, confusion, fear, shame, and anxiety. If children are involved, the stress of divorce may be more intense.

Divorce may be complicated if you have children. Children are often impacted by a parent’s divorce. These effects may cause mental health issues. Divorce may increase chances of anxiety, depression, self-harm, and suicide in children and teens. You can help avoid these issues by watching your child’s reactions.

Family counseling can be extremely helpful in establishing a new normal for your family. Melanie Graves can provide a safe setting for your child to share their thoughts, feelings, and worries. Family sessions can also be used to develop a strong and cohesive co-parenting plan so that the child/ren can experience a stable and consistent environment no matter which parent they are with.

05 — Blended Families

“Blended family” is another term for stepfamily. This occurs when a person with children remarries. It can take 2 to 5 years to adapt to a blended family dynamic. The first few years can be difficult for many families, but family members that respect each other may have a smoother transition. It can help to accept differences between the new and old family. Acknowledge that these things take time, letting bonds form at their own pace helps many blended families succeed.

If you are having trouble with your blended family, therapy can help. Talking one-on-one with a therapist can help you sort through your thoughts and feelings. Couples may also encounter challenges starting a blended family. They can speak with a couples counselor. Tension may exist throughout the family. Family therapy could help resolve these conflicts.

Parents of blended families must sort out their new roles. They must set boundaries around parenting, discipline, and finances. Family therapy or counseling can help address these issues. Therapy can provide a platform for family members to voice their feelings. In therapy, children can express their fears and concerns. They can then better understand their place in the new family unit. They will be reassured of your continued love and affection. You can also learn how to keep up a healthy connection with your children. You may learn how to build new and loving bonds with your partner and stepchildren.

06 — Grief

Most people will experience loss at some point in their lives. Grief is a reaction to any form of loss. Bereavement is a type of grief involving the death of a loved one. Bereavement and grief encompass a range of feelings from deep sadness to anger. The process of adapting to a significant loss can vary dramatically from one person to another. It often depends on a person’s background, beliefs, and relationship to what was lost.

If you have lost someone or something precious, therapy might help. Therapy is an opportunity to explore your feelings and memories without judgment. No loss is too big or too small to warrant support. You do not have to endure your grief alone.

07 — Child/Adolescent

Children and adolescents, or teens, build social skills and emotional intelligence as they grow. These things often lead to healthy, happy lives. But some kids have emotions or behave in ways that disrupt their well-being.

Learning about children's mental health issues can increase your knowledge of how to help. Certain skills can teach you to interact more effectively with your child. Seeing a therapist can teach you these skills. A therapist may also benefit children or teens. Therapy can be a safe space for kids to process thoughts and emotions.

To seek help is one of the greatest decisions a person can make.
